Date: 6:30 PM June 27th, 2024
Address: Online (Zoom)
This training is for anyone who wants to ranger at a BC regional event (such as Otherworld or Burn in the Forest) in 2024.
Important: You must complete the self-study training before attending this virtual training session. The self-study material will be emailed out to registered participants prior to the training session.
Agenda
- 6:15 – 6:30 PM: Waiting room open
- Please aim to be online 10 minutes early to ensure that you are ready to start on time.
- 6:30 – 7:00 PM: Quick review of training material, run through answers to quizzes, explain how scenario practice works
- 7:00 – 8:45: Scenario practice & feedback
- 8:45- 9:30 PM: Post-scenario discussion
Preparation
You will receive a link to the self-study training videos after registration. You must complete the material – which takes about 2 hours to review – and fill out the quiz on the training page in order to receive the link to the Zoom training.
There is not yet a trainee manual that we can share with you, however, you can prepare yourself additionally by checking out the Black Rock Ranger Manual, as it is the foundation of our training.
Make sure that you either have the Zoom app on your device or have tested Zoom with your web browser in advance. Ensure that it has the necessary permissions to be able to use your camera & microphone – this is a participatory session!
Plan to take this session at a quiet & private location where you can:
- have a reliable internet connection
- focus on the material without distraction
- be on camera
- speak out loud
- possibly even move around
As part of the online training, you will be acting out interactive scenarios as a Ranger and will need to speak & act accordingly as you would if you were addressing that situation at an event. Imagine that you’re at an in-person training session – be present & participate.
What To Bring (to wherever you’re at)
- Notebook and pen
- Water bottle / cup
- A snack (we’re going to power right through the material)
Thank You, Ranger!
It takes a community to help make our events a compassionate and supportive place. Thank you, Ranger, you are so appreciated.
